Sk8ter Boi Is Based

He was a boy
She was a girl

Right off the bat, BAM, she hits you with “There are only two genders.”

Can I make it any more obvious?

Wow, Avril calm down, it’s 2025 not the early 2000s, you can’t just say that!

And yet, she does. Because it really is that obvious.

He was a punk
She did ballet
What more can I say?

We get it Avril, you support clearly defined gender roles. Dude defies social standards and is paving his own way as a man (as all men must do, chin towards God, King). And she does literally the most feminine type of dance I can think of.

He wanted her

Isn’t this how it always starts? With the man’s desire? Notice we don’t start here with the clueless guy, who is then snapped up by The Predatory Female. No, no that’s not The Fairytale, and everyone knows that deep down. Guys select, girls reject. Now for the moment of truth - Does she like him back?

She'd never tell
Secretly she wanted him as well

YES! She does! Heck yea, good luck man. And here we see feminine coyness, the hidden desire waiting to be unlocked. He must pursue, initiate, and lead. The dance has begun!

Close your eyes - Can you envision it? There’s tension. There’s drama. There’s risk, maybe even danger!

This, now this is Romance!

But now, enter the villains of the story:

But all of her friends
Stuck up their nose
They had a problem with his baggy clothes

The Girl’s Friends. Shallow and superficial. Judgy. Stupid. Giving advice based on their own mistaken preconceptions and prejudices. “Thinking” together as a pack, but acting like crabs in a bucket.

The blind leading the blind.

He was a skater boy
She said, "See you later, boy"

And thus she rejects him too early. Tale as old as time.

He wasn't good enough for her

Hypergamy on full display. Avril dropping red pills. She knows what’s up.

She had a pretty face
But her head was up in space
She needed to come back down to earth

This woman is clearly beautiful, but instead of being humble in her beauty (think One Direction’s You Don’t Know You’re Beautiful) she displays Classic Feminine Vanity. And Pride comes before The Fall.

Five years from now
She sits at home
Feeding the baby, she's all alone

And so instead of marrying the guy who liked her, she has sex outside of marriage, the guy leaves her, and she becomes a Single Mom. At what point the guy left her is not clear, but what is clear is that she got used for sex and then discarded. She thought she could have sex without the consequences of sex, but that’s just not true. It never has been, and it never will be.

What she actually did is have sex without the guy committing to the consequences of sex. Because that’s the only condition under which sex, real sex, is a Fair Trade between the sexes.

And so now she is alone, with no man to love her and take care of her, and with a baby to care for. Truly tragic. Notice though that she does have the baby though. Remember, Sk8ter Boi is based; the song rejects abortion and leaves a seed for future redemption in the baby.

She turns on TV
Guess who she sees
Skater boy rockin' up MTV

Ok enough with being gentle. This song is based, not nice. And in this moment the truth hits her like a ton of bricks - she done fucked up. Bad.

The man has now come into his Kingdom. He has status. He has power.

And she is a Single Mom, which no amount of nauseating sweet nothings said by people who are cowards and liars can ever change the cold hard reality that there is hardly anything worse that you can do to your children in terms of their development and well-being than deprive them of a father.

Again, murdering them excepted, although half the country disputes this.

She calls up her friends
They already know
And they've all got tickets to see his show

The friends in the end aren’t there for her. They apparently didn’t even invite her to go with them to see his show (lol!), and they certainly aren’t helping her take care of her baby. Not like a man could, and would have if only she’d followed the wisdom of the past, the Wisdom of her Ancestors (Excluding, obviously, her parents and grandparents, who likely were only too complicit in giving her bad advice and being bad role models, being they were the ones who started the sexual rebellion against the natural order, and ultimately God).

The rules are simple:

  1. No sex before marriage.

  2. Take care in the man you pick (but we repeat ourselves here)

    1. Find one you like, are attracted to, and who will take care of you - You get to pick him!

Instead she listened to the Folly of her Friends. Notice now they’re all about him once he’s achieved fame and success.

She tags along
And stands in the crowd
Looks up at the man that she turned down

Here, Avril is poetically portrays The Great Reversal. Remember boys, if you put her on a pedestal, she has no choice but to look down at you. She wants to look up at you, ideally both literally and metaphorically, and have you be hers.

He was a skater boy
She said, "See you later, boy"
He wasn't good enough for her
Now he's a super star
Slammin' on his guitar
Does your pretty face see what he's worth?

Now it gets a little ugly. Yes, we see some building up of her man, but Avril here takes a turn for the nasty and starts to taunt the other girl, making fun of her beauty and laughing at her for her lack of discernment. Looks can be deceptive, and while everyone knows who the hotties are, not everyone can see a man of value. Avril is mercilessly taunting this girl for missing it.

He was a skater boy
She said, "See you later, boy"
He wasn't good enough for her
Now he's a super star
Slammin' on his guitar
Does your pretty face see what he's worth?

Ok, overkill? Why is this being repeated? Note that Avril hasn’t repeated any stanza before previously. She’s obviously not doing this just because - There’s definitely a deeper meaning. Why is Avril repeating how awesome this guy is and mocking the girl??

What’s going on here? She makes you wait with an instrumental interlude to find out…

Sorry, girl, but you missed out
Well, tough, luck that boy's mine now

Oh, WOW. So this is from the perspective of the girl he married in the end, not Avril! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha - This ENTIRE song is one woman flexing on another because she got the guy! Amazing. Incredible. BASED.

Competition in its rawest and most primal form.

We are more than just good friends

No friend zone here.

This is how the story ends

She’s won. Her man’s past heartbreak is now her Triumph. And now she’s rubbing it in the other girl’s face - “You lost, and I won the Game of Love.” Girl’s are pick me’s, and she’s so incredibly happy to have been picked she can’t help but gloat.

Vicious? Yes. Sinful? Quite possibly. Endearing? In the right context.

But Based? Absolutely.

Too bad that you couldn't see
See the man that boy could be
There is more that meets the eye

This girl couldn’t see the boy’s potential. And there’s a reason for that - a man’s real value for a portion of his life is his potential, and if the girl was smart enough to understand that she could’ve invested in him, helped him succeed, and unlocked his latent greatness.

I see the soul that is inside

She sees his soul, who he really is. This right here is True Love, what we all long for, for our very soul to be laid bare and vulnerable, entrusted to another who loves us and cherishes us. The sorrows of the dating world, the pitfalls of male-female relationships, the inner ache we all feel because man is not meant to be alone, and woman is made to be a helper fit for him, all washed away as the two become one flesh creating with their love a third person, an image of the Trinity…

Ok that might be reading a little bit into it, but still.

He's just a boy
And I'm just a girl
Can I make it any more obvious?
We are in love
Haven't you heard
How we rock each other's world

Ahhh, what a happy ending. Clearly a beautiful relationship.

I'm with the skater boy
I said, "See you later, boy"
I'll be back stage after the show

Hot. Supporting her man, just as God designed, hell yea.

I'll be at a studio
Singing the song we wrote
About a girl you used to know

Finally, Avril ends with what is very clearly a dog-whistle. She’s helping her man write his songs! Mind-blowing if you never caught it before, but it’s pretty clear Avril Lavigne believes in Genesis Helpmeet theology. Probably has to hide it not to offend her Two-Income “Christian” audience who abandoned that old-fashioned nonsense (aka Christianity, the teachings of the God-man Jesus Christ, who will come again to judge the living and the dead, separate the sheep and the goats, and tell those “Christians” who put their children in daycare to be raised by someone else so they can “feel fulfilled” at their stupid jobs and afford [insert nice things] instead of raising them “I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.”).

It’s Ok Avril, we hear you, and we support you.

I'm with the skater boy
I said, "See you later, boy"
I'll be back stage after the show
I'll be at a studio
Singing the song we wrote
About a girl you used to know

So. Incredibly. Based.
