The Importance of Shame

Remember the City of Miletus with the suicide epidemic of women. Only through shame could they stop the social contagion taking place among their women. Women were seeking attention by imitating (high status?) suicides. Only through associating the behavior with shame could the city put a stop to the suicide epidemic.

Potential lesson - Is shame required to help protect women from destructive behavior? Is there a difference here between men and women, and what is that difference?

Have we lost something by shaming shame? The worst thing isn't truly to feel bad about something we did - sometimes we need to feel bad about things, because if we did them they would hurt us. By getting rid of shame, we are now seeing, particularly women (see tattoos, sleeping around, career first then marriage later, becoming fat, dressing innapropriately, etc.), do shameful things that hurt themselves.

Society attempts to use shame all the time against men (think porn, incels, age gaps, pretty much anything related to sex that women don't like, including not being good enough or working hard enough, failing to provide, etc.).

Getting rid of shame gets rid of standards. If shame protects, then it must be a tool of the Patriarchy, which exists to protect women and children (Patriarchy is protection).
