Emperor Charles V is the Patron of The Christendom Coalition. Why?
The first thing to note is that this is not a canonized patron, and Charles V was a sinful man. This is to remind us that we are not saints yet either, and our salvation hangs in the balance - we must perservere in faith, hope, and love to the end, and always be mindful with humility of our own sins and failings.
Second, Charles V was a ruler. We need the virtues of prudence and courage, of real political leadership in this day and age. Politics has spiritual consequences.
Because, thirdly, we are in a Crisis. The West, the United States, Christendom, the Church - all are in crisis. We are essentially at a civilizational crossroads, as was Charles V in his day and age, with the discovery of the New World, the breakout of the Protestant so-called Reformation, and the encroachment of the Ottoman Empire. Today we have the crisis of technology and relationships, the truths of the ancient Catholic faith are denied on a systematic level are not saints at least yet. Charles V was pivotal in the fight to keep Christendom together, though he only partially succeeded. Those he opposed, namely Francis I of France and Pope Clement VII are in large part responsible for the delay of the Council of Trent that reformed the Church and stemmed the flow into heresy - choosing against the doctrines of Christ.
Fourth, as mentioned above, Charles V wasn't afraid to oppose the Pope, and actually burned Rome in 1527 (that was bad, but was mostly an accident, and they made up after). Pope Clement VII was the coward who wouldn’t speak clearly on Henry VIII's marriage to Catherine of Aragon until forced to (potentially an exercise in infallibility, in my view). Charles V speak to a cowardly Church, and one that meddles in politics to its own detriment, as in our day.
Fifth, because he's Catholic. The Crisis of Christendom is the crisis of politics and the Church. We can and must have Protestant allies in this fight. But the center of the fight is and must be Catholic, as the Catholic Church is Christ's Church, the Church of the Bible
Sixth, because Charles V stood against the Mohammedans. This will be more of a battle for Britain and France, but Christendom's ancient enemy must always be opposed. Remember, if you're a Muslim your religion is from a 9yo raping pedophile illiterate warlord who is burning in Hell, forever and ever, praise be Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Savior, and God.
Seventh, Charles V had a wife who loved him, and they reportedly had great marriage despite some of Charles V's failings. Simply having a spouse who loves you and remaining faithful to her is a great victory in the West today, as we are in the throes and crisis of Feminism
